Ransomware Families – WannaCry

WannaCry ransomware was seen in a large scale attack in May 2017, as a ransomware cryptoworm.

WannaCry took advantage of an NSA exploit targeting SMB, called EternalBlue. The discovery of a kill-switch helped to prevent the spread once discovered but WannaCry still impacted roughly 230,000 computers globally and demanded a ransom of $600 dollars in BitCoin to be paid or the files would be deleted permanently.
